It seems this is not unique. It was reported than an American girl had half her brain removed and the wiring of the brain reconnects to function properly. This was reported only a few months ago.

This is one of the best documented phenomena I know of, there are records in a London hospital from about 100 years ago of a man born with barely any brain who'd never be assumed to be any different from anyone else. He functioned the same as if he'd had one, and there is no theory I've come across to explain the clear point that whatever our brains can do something else can also do it. I haven't got a link as it was in a book (how we used to live) so would take me days to find it but a pretty well known story if anyone does have a link. They have the xrays and full reports available to the public but precious little in the way of publicised conclusions although the implications for disability treatments are incredible.

To survive such a massive trauma is completely unbelieveable - and wonderful of course. However this clip doesn't seem to talk about his functioning - it seems to be more to do with the appearance of his skull/head. I think there were a couple of clips which showed him speaking but I would be fascinated to know the extent of his physical, mental and emotional capabilities?

I don't know anything about the brain, but it is clear that we can survive quite happily without certains organs. I have just recently had my gall bladder removed, "You can live quite happily without that", said the surgeon. 40 years ago, as the result of an accident I had my spleen removed, "You can live quite happily without that",said the surgeon. I sometimes get the feeling that I am going to the Promised Land in bits and pieces. I only hope that when the time comes the undertaker will give a discount on the missing bits.
