Help! Can I get my photos back

Thinking that desktop icons were only shortcuts and that my photo file was so big, my pc was slowing down, I put my photo file desktop icon in the recycle bin and then deleted. Now I realise I have accidentally deleted 4 years family digital photos. Can I get them back ?? Can anyone help ??

i guess you learn the hard way unless you did a backup in the last 4 years; or if you've not altered much else since your error you could try something like this; http://www.recovermyfiles.com/ i lost a year's worth once but that was b4 we had decent backup rewriters etc. backup every 4 weeks or less coz u never know when your system will go titsup.

Possibly....don't store anything else to the pc or delete anything else till you get something like this http://www.recovermyfiles.com/ I am sure there are many other options out there but it's not permanently lost yet.

I did a similar thing with a large directory of pictures and one of the recovery utilities managed to retrieve almost all of them. Does anybody know if system restore (if your version of windows has it) will return deleted files in this way?

No system restore bascially reverts your PC back to the way it was when it was delivered. Its more likely to permanently delete files and would remove everything else.
