How did the American Rock & Blues "Foghat"

Hi any ideas how FOGHAT the American Rock and Blues band came up with the name ,I have been watching a new American cop series called GOOD GUYS and the tracks of the band are featured .I have also read scores of information regarding the band ,except there is no mention of the name or in fact why the guitarist was called LONESOME DAVE.
Any ideas please. thank you.
