watering the lawn via a water butt
7 Answers
Instead of using mains water from the garden tap to spray the lawn I am considering buying a water butt and an electrically operated water pump using my existing sprayer. Has anyone tried this and is practical?

typically you can get a rainwater diverter that attatches to your downpipe. When full you turn it off and the water's just diverted as it was before.

we have two water butts, both full since last nights rain. we have an overflow on one to fill the other, and a diverter on the down pipe so when they're both full the rain water just goes down the pipe into the grid. no problem.
of course, now we have two full water butts and a garden that doesn't need watering...
lukourgos, i would just leave the lawn, it'll soon recover when the rain starts even if it looks quite dead now.
