Why do some polishes become impossibly thick when only half used? I have a L'Oreal that I use every week-but it's gloopy now. I have tried the drop of remover trick in the past-but that never solves the problem.

Invest in proper nail polish thinners mavala do one and there are others out there. they actually bring the polish back to useable very well and in real terms its like getting your money back pretty quicky as you don't need to replace half used polishes
I agree with rowan & I've noticed that non-pearl polishes seem to keep better than pearlised ones.

Thanks for your reply, rowan. I think Boots stocks Mavala-so I will have a look for it. What annoys me is that it is not the cheapest polishes that get so thick.
Question Author
I only use non-pearl on my hands. Yet-I've a bottle of pearlised Rimmel that I use for my toes-had it a year or more-and it's fine.
The more expensive ones have more of the pigment particles and less base so they only have to lose a small percentage of base to start clogging.
In this day & age they could probably produce a non-thickening one but they're not going to do that are they? ;o)

It's called planned obsolescence...everything has a predetermined shelf life.
Gee rowan...you are a font of information... ;-)
not sure why it happens but a good trick is to keep nail varnish in the fridge - stops them from thickening
