upgrading from vista to windows 7 untimate...any issues?

i have a laptop that came with vista home premium preinstalled.

i have just upgraded to windows 7 ultimate.

are there any known issues or problems that i have to physically address in order for this to work perfectly....?

ive already seen that some screensavers wont display (but im not bothered) i just mean is there anything more important that i wll have issues with.

also anyone got any tips to make it all work just right?

First of all, you should have run the windows 7 upgrade advisor either before or during the windows 7 installation.

This should have told you if there were any issues with your attached hardware such as printers etc along with software incompatibilities

I upgraded from Vista Home Premium to Windows Seven Ultimate and my HP printer was incompatible and failed to work on the installed drivers. It took me around four days to get it back up and running again due to beta drivers on the HP website that failed to work properly. I permanently lost Sibelius 5 music software as it won't work at all with Seven. Everything else was OK.

Having read the forums extensively before upgrading, the general opinion is that the upgrade advisor is excellent at picking up the stuff you're likely to lose so I doubt you'll find any issues with your installed programs in the near future.

If you want to improve the performance of Seven, download The Ultimate Windows Tweaker:

This is the Seven compatible version of the famous TweakUI and it's brilliant at tweaking Seven without messing about in the registry. It even includes such things as the ability to turn off Aero-Shake, Aero-Snap etc which are very useful if your computer is not quite up to running Windows Seven. Try it out

thanks, my friend did it for me and i dont think he used that software before hand.

most seems fine at the moment, though my graphics card seems to be sufferingh a bit

I stand to be corrected on this, but I think the only way you can find that out now is to try out your installed software and your hardware to see if they work or not.

As far as your hardware goes, as long as the stuff is not to old, you should be able to find drivers for Windows seven on the manufacturers website.

If some of your software doesn't work, you''ll probably have to upgrade to a version that's compatible with Windows Seven if it's available. In my case, I'm looking to upgrade to Sibelius 6 which I know works on Windows Seven, but it's going to cost me well over £100 to do so.

(if you have, this will sound patronizing in the extreme) have you tried running Sibelius in compatibility mode, or running a virtual Vista machine within Windows 7?

Yes, I have tried compatibility mode. I selected the Vista option ie neither 32-bit nor 64-bit and it still wouldn't work. The PC OS was 32-bit Vista but I just tried the plain bog-standard version.
I hadn't thought of running a virtual Vista machine inside Seven. How do I go about doing this?
Incidentally, you've made some good points and I'm not offended!

I haven't tried either but I am sure something can be done...
