it's not. Holland is a country that is part of the Netherlands. I think!!!
Hollands, Netherlands but why do they call them Dutch?

United Kingdom is England, North Ireland, Wales and Scotland.
Great Britain also includes Eire.

I love the Dutch. Some of the nicest people I've ever met have been Dutch.
Sorry another view; GB is England, Scotland and Wales. UK has Northern Ireland added to it. The British Isles includes rest of Ireland and all the islands around ie Jersey, Isle of Wight, Isle of Man etc
the Netherlands (which means 'low countries - referring to it being half below sea level) is the country's official name; North and South Holland are provinces. Still, the name Holland is sometimes given to the whole country - its tourist website is visitholland.

Dutch is a form of 'Deutsch', the German word for German; in English it doesn't have anything to do with Germany now.

you should probably not trying to tell an Irishman his country is part of the British isles, though; he might point out that there are so many Irishmen in the UK that it's part of the Irish Isles.
