Hi
Can anyone help me with some info on bio-diesel?
How much should you pay for used oil for production?
How much it costs to produce bio-diesel?
what sort of mileage can you get?

Thanks

I used to have a very big VW camber, I ran it solely on chip oil, it stank like a chip shop outside and pinked a little but sooo cheap, I think I was paying 37p per litre, of course this was illegal, but... :-) you also had the option to buy the chip oil and pay the tax on it, so I would buy 5 gallons every now and then and just keep the receipt, it all came from the same pump, if I was stopped I would just show the receipt with tax paid. I would fill my camper up and I carried 5X 5litre Jerry cans that sat in a box mounted at the back. Cheap motoring :-)) this was bought at a special garage set up to sell this stuff, they processed it on the premises.

Pretty much any deisel will run just on straight cooking oil like mine did, it was just filtered for purity, no additives, but like I said it stank and made some vehicles pink a lot, not all deisels were suitable but most were.

Eddie, I now it wasn't perfect but their was no additive at all, Jeremy clarkson actually done a bit on it as well, he bought a gallon of chip oil and poured it into an empty Volvo tank and ran road tested it, it was a long time ago. if I remember correctly he suggested a teaspoon of diesel per gallon of oil. I'm sure their always was the dregs of some diesel in my van as occasionally I couldn't get hold of the oil and would buy diesel.

Mine ran for about 18 months on the stuff without a hitch, I then sold it and the guy who bought it carried on using cooking oil. I am aware that some vehicles had a problem with seals in the injector pumps popping out. There were many thousands of people running their vehicles on the stuff and the company where I got mine had many contracts for supplying fleet vehicles, I can only speak from my experiences of it and the the garage gave fairly comprehensive guarantees that the oil would cause no ill effect as long as all guidelines were followed and some vehicles were not suitable at all. I accept it was a bit of a fad and I doubt if the garage is even still there.

I maybe wrong but wasn't the first diesel engines first made to run on peanut oil?
