There is a post in Home and Graden about changing the locks on your house when you have just moved in, I don't know anyone who has ever done this, but it seemed to be the done thing on the thread. Is that really what people do? I've never done it in all the house moves I have had over the years and it wouldn't ever occur to me to do so, am I too trusting??

"you view the property with the seller " - not always possible - last house I bought had been empty for 6 months - seller bankrupt and done a runner - tenant evicted - I dealt with estate agent and seller's bankers - I changed the locks!
lol annie. I have enought stuff.....I've got enough stuff to fill 2 houses....it's all worthless stuff though. So no one's going to rob me. (but thank you anyway xx)
"Change the loo seat" - Mrs. V insists that I change the entire bog - pan, cistern and seat!

I've never been in that position vagrant, i've always viewed with the seller. Maybe it would have occurred to me if I had found myself in other curcumstances.
I've been in this house for over 30 years Vagrant....all new bathroom stuff when we moved in, so only the loo seat to change on an annual basis....
Mazie - there was someone today on our internal newsletter at work selling the entire contents of a house for £1000. I didn't dare look, I might have liked some of it.
Annie - exactly my point - you make a judgement based on previous occupants.
sometimes having the key didnt help red lol
Hi boxy...I think my furniture and stuff would be worth a bit but I can't see a thief coming to my house and shifting a load of furniture...I dont have jewels and expensive tellies.. Plus I do have really high gates each side of the house..and no one knows whats behind them ;o)
