youtube help

I used to be able to watch videos on youtube with no prblems until a few days ago, now i get a message which says:
Hello, you either have JavaScript turned off or an old version of Macromedia's Flash Player. Get the latest flash player.

When i click on the link the new flash player appears to download successfully but the youtube still gives me the same message. I haven't changed any settings since watching videos on youtube so I don't know if java script could be turned off but how do I make sure it's turned on?
