I would like to have a pithy but non-trite expression that means 'a turning point.'
The context is an article on the history of artificial resuscitation involving rhythmic pressure on the chest. This procedure was considered suspect through the 19th century until an American specialist in the 1880s demonstrated how it may be done safely. His demo proved to be 'a turning point' as far as acceptance and development of the process was concerned.
Can anyone provide an appropriate alternative to the words 'a turning point' ? It may well be that this is as good as it could be.
Thanks.
