Hello All. My house is heated by night storage heaters. during the "summer period" these are switched off at the relevant fuse boxes by myself. however my latest bill has informed me that I have used 90 kwh of power since I switched off and I don't know how this can be, i know this is a very minimal amount but I feel I shouldn't be paying anything for power I am not using. I would add if any technical friends out their that my house is totally electric ( long story) and I have a digital meter recording my power usage
I thought that what SOG was saying was that he has disabled the circuit for only the storage heaters. All the rest of his electricity would be unaffected.
However my knowledge of electricity itself is almost non-existent. Sorry.
Think yourself very lucky Old Git if you've managed to live for three months and only consume 90KW of electricity.
We have both gas & electric. The heating & hot water is provided by gas with electric for appliances. Our electric usage is pretty standard all the year round at 15KW per day. That equals about 1350KW a qtr. Yes, I know it's excessive but try telling that to my OH who I think must hold shares in the energy company. God knows were the electricity goes! All I know is that I'm constantly switching off lights, TV sets etc that are not being used. I keep reminding her that if I go first she will have to pay the bills so she'd better change her ways sooner rather than later.
Does your bill separate electricity used during the night period then ? Or to the heaters themselves ? Really need to know how the bill is worked out, where this 90KWh comes from.
Must be something taking current, airing cupboard radiator maybe ? Towel rail ? Just brainstorming here.
The OP is only using 1KWh a day for heavens sake, what's he complaining about? Doesn't he boil a kettle, cook his food, switch a light on, watch TV, own a fridge etc?
He should be grateful he's not married to my missus!!
thank you all for your help.To answer Old Geezer and Docspock yes I have a digital meter that registers domestic useage and night storage separately which is how I discovered this power leak.I have now pulled the fuses so there can be no way that there can be a leakidge to the heaters.I'll let you know what happens.Thank you again S.O.G
Update on leaking electrity. Thank you all once again for your help.Docspock I think you could be right about the late night useage for instance I am using my computer now (03:20) plus the tv is still in use so I guess this is the answer.I'll have to try to switch more things onto the cheap rate in future. ATB to you all.S.O.G.
