I'm going to Paris on a short mid week break next month.  Its the first time I've been there and would welcome suggestions of things to do solo.  I am specifically going for the Louvre but will have some additional time.  Any places to avoid on my own would be great also.

Cheers, L

You don't say how many days so here's a list of things to see:

Eiffel Tower/Trocadero, Montmatre/Sacre Coeur (must!!), Notre Dame, trip on River Seine, Musee d'Orsay, St. Germain/Latin quarter areas, plus there's a few really good cemeteries that are worth visiting if you have time.

There was a reply on AB awhile bank with a huge list of places to visit and weblinks.

Here's a link that was edited by AB (I'm sure this has one of my replies merged).

As soon as you get there, I suggest you get a Paris Visite card from a metro station.  This gives you unlimited travel on trains and buses within Paris.  Also go to a good bookshop for a bus map and timetable.  It is much more informative than the free one that the transport authority provide.  There is a particularly good bookshop called Gilbert Jeune. which I think is in the Boulevard St Michel.
The correct spelling of the bookshop is Gibert Jeune and it is in the Place Saint-Michel.
I have been to Paris Many times on my own and there's so much to see  I would suggest you get a travel book an excellent one is DK travel guide Paris full of Maps and in depth places. agree with what has been said by others and an interesting place is St Denis basilica this has lots of history where Kings were crowned also where  Abelare / Heloise . It may seem strange to visit a cemertry but well worth a visit is Montparnasse many famous people buried there and ornate tombs millions visit  The museum life of Napoleon .  a good view of Paris from monmarte. Its a great city but changed over the years and would like to say be on your guard keep wits about you as non french beg and pickpockets the Metro system can be confusing at first, buses are ideal and see more of the sights. Have a nice time  take plenty of Euro's as since change from Franc prices have increased.  DK  is Dorling Kindersley book.
You get a fabulous view of Paris from the 7th floor the the Galeries Lafayette.  I never knew this existed until I was there a few weeks ago.  There is even a terrace cafe there, where you could have lunch.  It is a fabulous view because you are slightly higher than the rooftops.  The view from the Tour Montparnasse is also good and quite a lot higher.
