Insurance for learner driver
My 17 year old son is learning to drive at the moment, entirely with a driving school. He will eventually be a named driver on our little old Fiesta. (No fronting here, he will just be an occasional driver)
My insurance comes up for renewal before he will have taken his test.
My question is if I add him as a named driver then, will I be hit with further charges (or even a refund) when he passes?
I remember someone suggesting the premium goes up when he gets a full licence, as he is more risk when unsupervised..

Read recently that one of the main stream insurers gives named drivers NCD based on the years as a named driver. If your son is not going to be in a position to own a car outright within a couple of years – this might be a good option. When he finally comes to insure himself – the years on your policy will count towards a reduction in his insurance costs (it might also give him an added incentive not to crash your car).
