unisured iphone

A mate of mine has an iphone as part of his contract with a well-known mobile phone company. He only signed up a few months ago when the phone was new, but he chose not to have it insured. Now he's dropped it and the screen has shattered. Any suggestions as to how he can get it replaced free of charge?

has he got one of the bank accounts with extras, like Natwest Gold? Some of them have phone insurance with them

has this changed? when iphones first came out insurance was compulsory with the 02 contract,
around £60 to get new glass in i believe

ive had an iphone with 02 for over 2 years and never had to have insurance with them.

ok but my 28 year old nephew who is a business man couldn't get one wiith out it

perhaps that was before i got mine then. cant recall how long they had been out when i bought mine.

I'm curious, why do you feel they should be able to get it repaired free of charge. they dropped it and broke it they pay for it to be repaired.

about £150 for the screen if thats broken, about £40 if it's only the glass cover broken.

it might be covered by his household contents insurance - i have valuables cover, and accidental damage cover, so mine would pay out for something like this. whether its worth the claim is debatable though.
