I have added iTunes to my Firewall but every time I start it, it comes up with the do you want iTunes to accept incoming transmissions. Not a major problem, just annoying
You may have a corrupted file here. There are a few fixes around, but the simplest first is to delete the iTunes programme and reinstall it with the latest version from the Apple website. Come back if that doesn't clear it.
Quit iTunes
Open your System Preferences and click Security in the top row.
Click Firewall. The lock icon bottom left is/should be closed. Click this to open, you will have to authorise with your password. When the lock icon shows as open, click advanced. Block all incoming connections should be unchecked, Automatically allow signed software to receive incoming connections should be checked. If all this is OK then check the application list. Is iTunes in the list? Has it a green light allowing incoming connections? If not click the red light to change to green.
When finished click OK bottom right, click the lock on the Firewall to close and protect from changes.
Restart iTunes to check
Tried all that Milvus, never had this issue with my Firewall before. I have even removed iTunes form the list and restarted the Mac and then added it back but still get the same problem, very annoying

There was a duplicate file in my preferences, no idea why. Anyway, trashed deleted iTunes like you suggested, re installed and hey presto all fixed.......for now, fingers crossed. Thanks for your help Milvus, got there in the end
Will do, and thank you once again. When you say key vault are you referring to the File Vault or Keychain app. I thought the duplicate was just because of a glitch from updating iTunes to the latest version?. I have never had it before, and the problem seems to have corrected now.
No not Key Vault. I wrote key fault, i.e. most important fault
The duplicate pref file can be caused by a corruption when synching ipods. Deleting the error plist sometimes works but the fix doesn't seem to stick. Reinstalling is the simplest complete cure without needing to use Terminal commands
