Rainwater filtration

Does anyone know of a budget method of rainwater filtration that allows water to suitable for feeding to pigeons?

Whats wrong with pure rainwater? they drink from any puddle or any water source they can find normally, do you think you are fussing over them a little maybe.

Not for me. My father has kept pigeons for donkeys and wants filtered water with no leaves or moss etc.

I have a rainbarrel under one spout of the rain gutter. It catches about 40 gallons. I have the top fitted with a mesh screen, the mesh being about the size of a window type screen. It does very well as filtering out leaves and other debris... so much so that we use it for small animal watering since it's closer to their area than any outside spigot we have... works good for plant watering as well...

Get a yard or so of muslin from a draper's or net curtain shop. Fold it in four and lay it over a clean garden riddle placed on top of a clean bucket. Pour the water through the muslin.

You could also try filtering it through a bucket (or barrel) of sand. Though you'll have to wash the sand every now and again.

Pair of old tights are the best....IMHO !!!

Old tights work well but don't last long. A large nylon sock works just as well and lasts longer.
