It's spelt 'psychometric'. Such testing is often used by employers to assess a job-candidate's suitability for a given post. The tests usually involve a battery of multiple-choice questions which you are supposed to answer honestly. Here's one: In difficult situations, would you say you can control your temper a) Excellently b) Well c) Adequately or d) Rarely. (A bit obvious, that one, perhaps!) Other questions, worded differently, will also be asking the same thing. This acts as a cross-check for the employer to see whether you are really being honest about yourself. Once they have assessed all your replies, they feel they know enough about you to give you the job or to tell you you're unsuitable.
