Gas pipe
How do I find the gas pipe buried underground in my garden? I want to remove tree stumps.

I agree with other answer. Your local gas company should be able help. If pipe is modern it will be plastic but if reasonably old it might still be metal although this is unlikely nowadays( metal detector).
Yes they have maps but most do not publish them.

When I was working for gas services company the service pipe-laying rule was 'straight lines and right-angle bends'.

Here in the U.S. there's a free service (paid for by the various utility companys) called Free Finder. We call them and within 24 hours someone comes out and locates all of the various utility lines and marks there locations with spray paint color coded to the various kinds of lines... electric, gas, cable T.V., etc. They would rather bear the cost of location than the cost ofr repairing and funeral expenses... Surely there's a similar service in the U.K., no?
