I have a Vauxhall Zafira 1.8 comfort.I can smell petrol on the back end of the car, Must noticeable by people seating at the back.I can smell it when I open the boot. I have tried to look for any Leaks but have not been able to spot any Leak or were it may be coming from. The smell is driving me mad as you can imagine. Hi, has the car been over filled? when putting fuel in the tank check underside for leaks & do this on a dry day, when parking put a sheet of paper under the car near the petrol side filler, check with a " TORCH" to see if you can see any leaks.
It may be coming from your exhaust. Unburnt fuel sometimes comes out this way. How is your fuel consumption? Sounds like you need some adjustment to the fuel controls.
It might be a leak around the sender/pump tank lid (I think are in tank) check for an access cover under rear seat or on boot floor .. take off and inspect seal, pipes, etc.

I never over fill as I never spend more than £20, but my fuel consumption is higher than normal. I will have to go underneath with a touch to look for any leaks. Thank you all for your suggestions.
Hi again
Are you sure it's coming from the back? obviously its hard to check for fuel leaks as petrol evaporates quickly, do you find this when the car is running? (Drawing fuel up to the pump) or is it all times?

It is definately coming from the back, All I need to do is open the boot and pop my head in the back, more noticeable when the engine is running. With the engine stopped, the smell will remain for sometime then is gone until engine is started and running for about 15 to 20 mins. The smell is not so strong seating at the front and anyone hardly complain about the smell.
I told you what to check earlier .. have you done that?
Question Author
I have'nt done that but I will check it tomorrow if the weather permits.

Thanks to you all once again. The Timing was two teeth out which according to the mechanic causes the exhaust valves to open too quickly, hence the smell of petrol. It was adjusted and the smell is gone.HURRAY. Fuel consumption has also improved. Guys keep up the good work
