For a local animal charity (mainly cats and dogs,) a cafe morning has been suggested -It'll be in the church hall, I said I'd do some baking but we were wondering what price to charge. bearing in mind it is for charity, would you pay the following prices?
tea and a small scone with cream and homemade strawberry or raspberry jam £1.00
For a pot of tea for one (2 cups) or a mug of fresh coffee and a slice of fresh cream cake (about three inches wide and tapering, six inches long)
£2,00
'lunch' little triangles of cucumber, egg and cress, cheese or ham sandwiches 6 triangles in all, (1 and a 1/2 sandwiches in all per person), a slice of cake (gateau type fresh cream or rich fruit, AND a scone or cup cake £4.00
They want to raise about £150 to get some new feeding and drinking bowls, and a couple of heat pads

I don't agree with the above ethandron, most of the charity do's I've done are in small villages with mostly locals attending and if the quality and the price are not right, they wont come to the next one! Quality is important to a lot of folk, espcially rural folk who are used to home baking etc.
mercia. Try not to over complete it with too much choice, you know what dithers some people are. Keep it simple, keep your original ideas but do some plain cakes as well as the cream ones.

The people visiting your little cafe will be there to support the charity - they won't mind what the price is.
I support (financially) only one charity - Cats Protection - and feel bad because there are so many small groups out there in the world trying to save animals. So if I was to go to an event like this I wouldn't begrudge paying what is, relatively, a small amount.

Hi ethandron. True, you have to get the balance right but I believe with mercia's baking skills and at the prices she's suggesting, people won't be put off by the price and wont be disappointed with the quality, hence my suggestion of a sign for an extra donation should they wish to make one. I used to love doing the ones in our village
wolf, it's the passing trade who have to be tempted in, those who support charities such as this will already be supporting it. you as a cat person might be happy enough to pay higher prices but someone else might not be. i think something like a cancer charity could charge more simply because cancer affects us all, one way or another. an animal charity may not be quite so well supported.
for myself, i have two charities which i regularly donate to, one for cancer and one for diabetes, and am also a member of the rspb. whilst i consider myself to be an animal lover, i have to say i would think twice about spending the same amount to support an animal charity. peoples pockets aren't bottomless.
