I had tiling jobs done to my bathroom and kitchen walls and am left with some unused, surplus tiles stored away in my garage. Can anyone suggest ways of using them please? It seems a pity to dump them.

Be sure to keep 2 or 3 in a safe place to replace ones that have been installed but suffer some damage and need replacement.

If they're the 4" X 4" tiles used on backsplashes then use a couple near the stove (ya'll call it a 'hob', no?)... they make excellent hot pads to set pans on...
Using some tile cement fix five tiles together like an open box when they are stuck use more tile cement to build up the inner seams to make planters
I use the Freecycle website to dispose of things I no longer need, and also to get things other people are getting rid of. We posted a message about some spare tiles and had lots of people asking for them, so that could be an answer for you.
I'd not be too hasty in throwing them away. My OH fully tiled our kitchen 30 years ago. Last year we bought a new gas hob which has the big burners at the back and the heat from them, with saucepans on, has caused several wall tiles behind the hob to start falling off. If we'd thrown away all our spare tiles, we would have been in deep doodah! You never know when tiles are going to get broken or cracked accidentally. Tuck them away in a safe corner. The week after you chuck them out, you can bet your bottom dollar one or more of your tiles will get cracked!
