Once again the claws of Islam are closing in around Britain.
/// According to the 2001 Census, Harrow is one of the most religiously diverse areas in Britain with fewer than 50 per cent of the population Christian, a fifth Hindu and 7 per cent Muslim and six per cent Jewish.///
Only 7% of Harrow are Muslim, yet the local authority are considering putting the needs of Muslim children before those of other faiths, by serving up halal-only menus.

Hardly the words of someone clenching their 'claws' around Britain, surely?

"Masood Khawaja, of the Halal Food Authority, said: 'It is commendable for schools to provide halal meats but there must be an alternative for non-Muslims. Some people are opposed to halal and kosher meat on animal welfare grounds and they should be given the choice not to eat it." "

Our local butcher has been selling halal chicken breasts for years - we served it at our wedding so that our Muslim friends could eat it without any worry. Nobody else had a clue, it doesn't taste any different. Most people wouldn't recognise any difference at all, and I have eaten halal meat on a regular basis when the occasion demands it.
Early in the report is the following statement:
"Schools are free to opt in to the programme or look elsewhere for their meals from the start of next month, according to Harrow Council"
Followed up by:
"Harrow resident Sheila Murphy told the Harrow Observer: 'I am appalled at Harrow Council’s decision to serve only Halal meat in the borough’s schools"
Errr...am I being a bit thick, or is there something odd with those two statements?
Bless the Daily Mail and it's readership. I luv 'em.

this was on LBC yesterday.. apparently its not the Muslim parents requesting this halal diet change - but the Council who are being advise by nutritionists... that its somehow better for you than normal meat.
Personally I think Halal meat is cruel and disgusting...
A chap called in to LBC who was a Sikh - and he said he would object very strongly to this if it were his kids school as Sikhs are banned from eating Halal meat - as they believe its cruel to the animals

What I dont understand WHAT-So-EVER is how Halal meat can be legal when it is clearly cruelty to animals... purely for religious reasons...
Does it actually say in the Koran that Muslims should only eat Halal meat?
All those poor animals that suffer everyday....
I eat meat - yes - but where ever I can I pay for organic - as I would like to think that the poor animal being killed to feed me might have had at least a happier life than its battery farmed counterpart! If I could be vegetarian I would!

I'm sure you can buy halal organic if you look for it.
Point is AOG, it's not just Musims who eat food in this way, and how do you conclude that 87% are against it.
Most people don't care overly, the fact is a lot of the meat we consume is halal or kosher that's been rejected by their butchers, so we eat it and don't even notice.

It is still being killed because you want meat (well, unless you have an unusual medical condition of some kind). Does the method of death really make all that much difference? If animal life matters so much, then does the fact that it's killed quickly excuse the fact that it's killed at all?
