Crafty Question: Fabric Gifts
9 Answers
I would like to make some craft gifts and have a few designs etc in mind and the basic knowledge of how to put them together.
I would like to put names on the gifts but do not have a sewing machine and as a beginner have basic sewing skills. Is there another way to add names onto my fabric based gifts?
Like iron on transfers, but they need to look nice. I have been googling transfers but they all seem a bit obvious and not what I am looking for. Basically I would like the effect of sewing a name on the items without actually sewing them. Is this possible?
Also if you are crafty yourself, do you have any great websites to share?
Thanks guys.

Inks may be an idea, A friend of mine used to make little satin and lace 'Birthday' cushions. She would write in black ink with a fine nib on them the babies name date of birth & congratulations. (You could practice your writing skills) She did anniversary ones, & special occasion ones, people would order them in advance.
She did have a request to do them for Harrods, but she couldn't cope with the amount they needed.

If you have an ink jet printer, you can print whatever you want onto transfer paper (HP T-Shirt transfer paper, for example) , and then iron it onto fabric.
Transfer paper is expensive, but easy to get - Reynolds Freezer Paper does much the same thing for a fraction of the price, but is harder to get. Hobbycraft sometimes have it, or you can buy it online.
As I understand it, Americans use this paper to wrap everything they put into their freezers.
