Are the people who regularily contribute answers to the questions on this site genuinely highly intelligent or just a bunch of work shy, cut and paste happy wasters?

No best answer has yet been selected by Moog. Once a best answer has been selected, it will be shown here.
For more on marking an answer as the "Best Answer", please visit our FAQ.Somewhere between the two Moog. Certain answers I can give off the cuff, while others can be provided by way of a quick flick through Google. While there are some questions that dwell firmly in the realms of the obscure, others can be dealt with in the space of a few moments. As long as the reply satisfies the questioner, does it really matter how it's obtained?

I guess you might be referring to me, amongst others. I'm pretty intelligent (he said modestly), currently looking for work rather than in it, and sometimes I'll cut and paste, but normally, I'll answer things I know. If a question grabs my fancy, I may go and research it myself and then cut and paste it. I do try to credit such things though. However, I would like to point out that a lack of knowledge on a particular subject has sod all to do with intelligence and everything to do with ignorance. If I'm ignorant and aware of it, I'll try and fix it. Anyway, everyone gets their knowledge from somewhere - it's not inate! :-) I hope that's a reasonable answer!
I am hopefully one of those two whom you refer Moog. I don't know about being highly intelligent - articulate certainly - I never cut and paste anything, all my opinions and prose are my own, typed straight onto the Site as I think of answers, at around 40-50 w.p.m. In common with most regulars, I know a little about a lot, and I get a kick out of putting my 10p worth into discussions. Next!
Perhaps I'm one of the people you're referring to. If so, yes, I am workshy, but that's OK as I'm retired. I think I'm fairly intelligent, and that's why I rarely answer anything purely "out of my head", but check facts, quotes etc, usually via Google. I assume that most people asking a question - like you - want an answer; and that they don't care much whether the answer emerges straight out of someone's brilliant mind and memory, or involves "cut & paste".

beenee I am neither old, a codger nor bitter. I also contribute to this site under a different name and in a similar vein to WaldoMcFroog I answer questions that I know the answers to and do a little bit of research where a question takes my fancy and intrigues me, but also will reference a source other than my own knowledge which is something that a lot of people clearly do not do! The true purpose of my question I was to ascertain other peoples motives for contributing to the site. I have to say I am fairly impressed I seem to of generated a response from most of the regulars especially as questions along these lines usually get ignored... (not sure how relevant your typing skills are though andy hughes!)
I reckon people who contribute regularly to this site are all fantastic, generous, smart and probably very beautiful. Don't you? As for methods... coming up with something from the recesses of the mind is gratifying but I'll often reassure myself that I'm right with a quick check on the Net. If it's more than that (and discovering something new is surely one of the pleasures of answering questions here) and I've learned something courtesy of a single site I tend to link to them. That means anyone interested in the subject gets direct access to far more info than can be relayed here.
If I could add a word on 'style', though, I do try to answer the question here and add a link, rather than just copy/pasting a url and leaving it at that!
