Is there an English version of Lingon Sylt ? (cowberry sauce)

lingonberry jam is scandinavian, I believe the UK equivalent would be cranberry jelly?

Thanks Octavius for your reply on Cranberry jelly - I am aware of this but I am under the impression Lingon is made from Cowberries and wondered if there was an English Cowberry Jelly or are they the same thing ? Does'nt taste the same to me ! Thanks anyhow !

Lingonberries and Cowberries are two varieties belonging to the same family of shrub that bear the fruits, as is cranberry.

I am sure that if you loked in Waitrose etc, or visited country fairs & markets you might find cowberry jam, but I think the cranberry is just more common.

I have never heard or seen of any UK grown cowberry (do you mean cowberry or cloudberry - which I had in Sweden) or lingon berry.

So the answer is no. The custom of cranberry sauce was introduced from the USA.

There isn't a UK custom of berries or berry sauces served with meats as there is in Scandinavia. But the IKEA store restaurants are introducing them withtheir Scandinavia dishes

Creepy - It seems you are off to the woods to pick some berries and make it yourself :0) I assume you have cowberries in the UK... I think they this would be the time to pick them anyway, as far as I remember they are a little longer to ripe than ie blueberries. Lingon Sylt by the way is great :0)
