sympathy Daisho - I had something similar years ago - all I could do was lie flat cos if I moved my head the room spun around and if |I raised my head the pictures on the wall jumped out on me - really awful and as you say - wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy. Good news (for me at least) was that it didn't last too long and I never had it again. Hope you get better soon.
Labyrinthitis is really a no specific diagnosis which has multiple causes.
Commonest cause is viral..a one off episode never to be repeated and treated as suggested by our posters above.
Can also be caused by middle ear disorders. do you have discharge from you ear?
It can also be a precursor of Meniere´s Disease.....this is recurring and needs specialist investigation and treatment.
My guess?....Viral labyrinthitis which will settle..........good luck

Daisho - I totally sympathise with you - this happened to me about 2 months ago - I was over at my parent's house, and caught my finger under the microwave, it bled and I felt faint - I went to lie down and the room started to spin, then I started throwing up - I have felt dizzy before, but nothing on this scale. My Dad rang an ambulance, I felt such a fool - it took me half an hour to get down the stairs, eventually on my bum, stair by stair. The two ambulance guys held me up, but I fell over. In the ambulance I was given oxygen - in A & E I went into shock and could'nt stop shaking.
Anyway it did wear off and they said it was Labyrithitis.
Wish you better. xx

I was diagnosed with Labrinthitis too first of all - - it got soo bad my doc thought I should have a brain scan to eliminate a prob there. Today I am completely clear this is what happened as was explained to Sqad.

Here we are just back from ENT. The verdict is I'm suffering from (wait for it) Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo. -----
First of all I was put in a soundproof room for a hearing test, series of beeps, whistles. high pitched screeches, ect. I passed that, he said my hearing was better than his....
He then put me through a manouver that created the 'problem' then manouvered my head and body to positions that made the whole room spin and made me feel really sick.
He explained there is a cavern behind the ear that has 3 chambers and in these chambers is fluid to keep our balance BUT sometimes these chambers get invaded by debris (Could be from old ear problems) soo this puts us off balance, he determined it was my right ear that was the problem, anyway by twisting my head round and tipping me upside down he was attempting to rid the chamber of the debris. Then he did it all over again, but I was ok then. I must say I felt better when I came out. He said it was a cure & I probably won't have to see him any more, Its a 7/10 cure but has left me an open app't for 6 months. Also I've got to do exercises at home for a few months. Twisting my head and hanging it of the end of the bed until I don't feel giddy any more. (no pain no gain)
