In the song Diamond on the soles of her shoes, paul simon sings the line ' he makes the sign of the tea spoon, she makes the sign of the wave' can any one explain what it means?

To be honest, I think he's one of those artists who sings anything as long as it scans, and relies on his reputation as a "songwriter" for people to accept it...
Paul was around in the sixties. There were a lot of drugs taken back then. Coincidence?
i can't give you an answer, but i saw a documentary on the bbc a few years ago where he broke down the entire lyrical meaning and thought behind "the boy in the bubble", so i don't buy the - no lyrical sense argument. happy hunting!
