Insurance companies – don’t you just hate them!!!
Out of bed early Sunday morning, need to sort out my house & contents insurance, due at the end of the month.
Have been sent a ‘reminder’ from my current insurer that renewal is due – and that I need do nothing if I want to policy to be continued at a cost of just over £200 for the coming year.
This seems a large increase on my previous year’s premium, so I logged on to my current insurers website for a quote. Sure enough, for the same cover, the price quoted was £85. So I will be canceling the automatic renewal, and taking up the website quoted price, with saving of £115.
Clearly insurance companies are taking their customers for a ride – don’t accept any insurance policy renewal price without checking out the market.

Never found THAT much of a discrepancy, but have regularly caught out the Churchill bulldog at the same game.

Last year I went with Direct Line and saved around £150 ... a couple of months ago they sent me the renewal which had gone up by 33%.
I phoned up and said I wanted to cancel because of the increase ... they asked if I had a better quote. I said '' not at the moment, but I will have ... after a few minutes on compare the market'' ...
I was then asked how much I expected to pay for the cover I had last year. My reply was not a penny more than I paid last year.
Hang on the caller said ... a couple of minutes past and she came back with a new premium ... 40p a month more than last years premium.
I then said if they can do it at last years price I wont even look at Compare the market,
They signed me up, there and then ... at last years price.!
