Some home DVD players only recognise one format, either DVD- or DVD+ (Some do both) this may be the reason?

Thankyu alunrw, im not sure if my dvd is only capable of this
Also, what format are you burning the video to the DVD-R in? It's worth remembering that DVD players are only compatible with a few formats compared to a PC which will read many data formats.

For it to work on a DVD player it's either going to have to be encoded in MPEG-2 or as a VCD or SVCD. You can't, for instance, burn videos in QuickTime, Windows Media Video or DivX to a disc and have them work on a set-top DVD player.

If your DVD-R is in proper DVD format, i.e. VOB files in the VIDEO_TS folder, then you might need to burn using "UDF" format - discs don't work for me in my Aiwa player unless I do them this way.

Nero is capable of doing this, among others.
