its up to the mortgage provider as to whether they think you can afford to pay it on your own or not, it would be just like applying for a mortgage on your own. if that is ok you will have to go to a solicitor or conveyancer, a conveyancer is much cheaper. good luck

The money comes out of my solo account and has done for the last year, so im sure there wont be a problem with that
thanks
when i splkit with my husband i could afford to pay my mortgage and did so but when he wanted his name off the mortgage account "on paper" i couldnt afford it, so firstly go to the mortgage lender and enquire about it
i think these days they are a lot more strict on who they lend to because in effect you are starting a new mortgage
The fact that you DO pay it on your own doesn't necessarily mean they will assess you as able to meet the costs on your own, especially if it remains relatively high in relation to the value of the property (as you imply). They are fairly likely to be unwilling to remove a name from a mortgage because it inevtably increases their risk.

If they are willing to have him removed then it will require legal work and associated bills. There was a thread on this as recently as Friday but I think it was suggested several hundred pounds would be the cost.
which is what id already said, it does cost money but do see a conveyancer and not a solicitor, they do the same job but a conveyancer is so much cheaper and a lot will tell you the amount at the off and not charge for anything else unlike solicitors
