The best bank for me

What is the best bank for me? I'm 17, male, and spend my money all the time, but occasionally, I need somewhere to store it when I have a bit more than I can spend, that isn't a hollowed out book. Also I should be getting a job soon. thanks.

Also, I'm quite busy, so I don't really have time to be writting off to all the banks to find the best one. thanks in advance. xx

Have banked with Barclays for years and always found them OK.  Also they offer an internet banking service which is very helpful for busy people since you can pay bills online at any time, check your balance, etc. .  But don't rely on most of the big High Street banks for the best savings rates because generally they are miserly.  Keep as little money as possible in your current account to meet your ongoing needs and research the internet for the best savings deals where you should place the rest of your savings. .   Good luck with the new job.  Always remember to spend a little less than you earn and it will stand you in good stead for adult life. .  It's a great temptation when you first start earning to rush out every month and spend it all but like smoking, it can turn out to be a difficult habit to break.

Just choose any one at random - they're all pretty much the same. At your age you *should* be spending every last penny that comes your way rather than trying to save and worry about interest rates etc.
Nationwide let you use your card abroad free of charge whereas all the other banks charge something like "minimum �1.50 and 2-3% of total spent" for using foreign cash machines.

There, decision made.

I'm also 17 and male and I have always banked with Natwest and found them excellent - their online and telephone banking is also great.

I would say though most banks are quite good - although I would NEVER bank with HSBC and LLoyds TSB - so steer clear !

jridgeback, there'll be just as many people saying "I've banked with HSBC and LLoyds TSB and they're great but, OH MY GOD, Natwest are rubbish!!"

All very subjective. Maybe you just used phone banking and got thru to someone with pmt.
