Let's put the seniors in jail and the criminals in a nursing home. This way the seniors would have access to showers, hobbies and walks.
They'd receive unlimited free prescriptions, dental and medical treatment, wheel chairs etc and they'd receive money instead of paying it out.
They would have constant video monitoring, so they could be helped instantly, if they fell, or needed assistance.
Bedding would be washed twice a week, and all clothing would be ironed and returned to them. A guard would check on them every 20 minutes and bring their meals and snacks to their cell.
They would have family visits in a suite built for that purpose.
They would have access to a library, weight room, spiritual counseling, pool and education.
Simple clothing, shoes, slippers, PJ's and legal aid would be free, on request.
Private, secure rooms for all, with an exercise outdoor yard, with gardens.
Each senior could have a PC a TV radio and daily phone calls.
There would be a board of directors to hear complaints, and the guards would have a code of conduct that would be strictly adhered to.

The "criminals" would get cold food, be left all alone and unsupervised.
Lights off at 8pm, and showers once a week.
Live in a tiny room and pay £900.00 per month and have no hope of ever getting out.
Justice for all we say.

You could have a point here Laura. I worked in a nursing home very briefly and it was terrible. It was owned by Stakis and they made the bulk of their staff up of YTS and Employment Training (most of whom were people with learning difficulties). The residents paid 1200 quid a month to sit in their rooms with tvs on full blast and have scrambled egg for Sunday Dinner. If we attempted to spend any time with residents or walk them to their rooms rather than stick them in a chair and wheel them back in a quarter of the time, we were reprimanded. And the only alarm system was a bulb that went on outside their rooms when a cord was pulled. My friend who also worked there was feeding one man his dinner when he choked - there was no way to alert other staff as they were all in the dining room on another floor and the man died. It was absolutely shocking and we were paid £26 a week to work there. The profits that company made at the expense of the elderly was disgusting.

£900 per month? My Grandad pays £450 per week for my Nan....and £400 a month for his carers. All from his own hardworking pocket.

I must say though....her home is great. The patients love the staff....Nan showers every morning.

Im not suggesting that all old folks homes are bad, but it does go on. But i can assure you that criminals who are locked up do have all the mod cons which i have stated. How do i know because i have a friend who has been in jail, and said it was like a hotel.The majority of old folks homes are well run and the elderly are well looked after. i still think that the criminal is better looked after. thats my opinion,and thats why there is so much crime in the world, because going to jail now is like having a holiday.

Prisons are badly overcrowded. There can be 3 people housed in a cell that was designed in the Victorian era to hold one. They might spend as long as 18 hours a day locked up.
Bullying is rife and the threat of violence is never far away. Whatever else a prison is, it's not any sort of holiday camp.

laurababy hats off to you for thinking of this, its a great idea, wouldnt mind trying it myself, I am a senior and I have to look after/be a carer for my husband who is reg blind, do you
know how much the state gives me carers allowance £ 11.48 per week, because I get pension credits thats all they say I can get. I have to do everything for him and worry what will happen if I leave this world before him.
