mp3 player help
Hi, i have purchased a bush 256mb mp3 player, but when i try to put more than 127 songs on it it, it says "cannot copy. the directory or file cannot be created". i have plenty of space left on my memory but i have no idea why this happens. it does this on all songs by the way if that changes anything.

It looks very much as if the filing system in your mp3 player is allocating just 1 byte for a file ID and using 7 bits for the value and 1 bit as a parity bit (check bit). That means that after 127, the directory/catalogue is full and cannot hold information about any more files even if there is still unused space on the device.
If I am correct, then you will just have to accept that you cannot save more than 127 files on your player.

however, to get 127 songs onto a 256mb device, the songs must either be pretty short, or of low quality.
the manufacturers base the size on the premise that most people will use files of average quality and average length, being 3-4mb each. thus you'd get about 75 songs on the device, and would never encounter this limit.
