Last week I bought an item on ebay. I paid with paypal and received the item very quickly. Today I received 2 emails from paypal (or maybe not) saying my bank had declined the payment so they had taken it from another card. The only other card I had with paypal has expired. What do you make of this? Is it phising?

If the messages are not on your Ebay account and just sent to your email address, then they are defo phising, Mic.
Contact PayPal and ask them to confirm the received emails...

sounds very dodgey cos your item wouldn't have been dispatched without payment being taken. I'm also curious as to how the payment was taken from another card - do you have two registered with pay pal. why not contact the seller and see what the scene is - also check your feedback from that transaction.
but don't reply to the suspect emails though.
i agree with the others...sounds like a spoof to me!

The seller has left me feedback. Nothing is on my profile at ebay about this apart from the fact i have paid. The card that they say it was taken from expired months ago. I only have one card there now.
PayPal got in touch with me when the back-up card I have on my account was due to expire - I'm surprised they are letting you carry on the account with an expired card. However - do as Eddie says, I always report suspicious emails with this sort of content and they always get back to me.
As a seller I would not mail an item until I know the money is in my PayPal account - so this sounds very much like phishing.

In the past when I have had phising emails I have never been called by name. This one knows my name. I have sent it to spoof but as yet not even an email aknowledgement from them.

Have you checked your paypal and bank account?
If you look at the senders email address it should be extremely obvious if it was a phishing scam.
The first step is to check whether the correct amount has actually been taken from your bank account. Also check your paypal account as the transaction will be listed as completed there, or failed if it didn't go through properly.
