What can I buy yearly for my little boy??

Hello,
I have a baby girl and am currently pregnant with a boy. My daughter is 1 next month and I am planning on buying her a golden charm each year to add to a charm bracelet as a special, long-lasting gift. Obviously I want to do something similar for my son i.e. buying him a small but special token each year to add to a collection of sorts that will always be there for him - but of course a charm bracelet would not really be appropriate!!
has anyone got any good ideas about what I could collect for him, the more special the better (but I am on a budget so can't be too extravagant and it's not about the price anyway but would be willing to spend up to £50 perhaps per year).

You'd have been better giving both that amount of money each year but putting it into savings then when they are old enough to drive put it towards a car. A charm bracelet is a lovely thought but what use will it be in 18 years time? x

a gold bracelet would hold value or even increase, 4get, baby CRX will be getting same.

I have a charm, bracelet, doubt worth anything and most of the charms have tarnished. And as you said now hard to choose for the boy

you could collect vintage toy cars maybe. there are lots of matchbox/superfast ones on ebay. that range in age from the 1950's onwards. also the price ranges from under £10 up to £80 or £90 or more depending on the age of the car,how rare it is,it's condition and how popular it is . old minis or vw camper vans seem to cost more because people like these more than a fiat for instance. you could put them away or display them and they could be an investment for the future for your son.

i agree with 4get. i have a silver bracelet made with silver dimes that an americal aunt had made for all the girls in the family when they were 18. i have never worn it and neither have any of the others, it's heavy, jungly and old fashioned. such a waste. maybe you need to ask yourself would you wear a charm bracelet yourself??
why not put the money away each year and when they reach 18 buy them something they would really like - your daughter might like a gold bracelet and your son a watch, or something completely different.

redx, i've never seen the point of buying jewellery as an investment as i would never sell it. surely the reason you buy jewellery because you like it, not as some sort of investment like you would shares?

this will be an investment for her to do with as she wishes. She will also have a bank account oh and that useless Child trust fund thing.
hopefully it will be something she loves and wants to keep for future generations.

I wouldnt ever sell mine though as some charms are sweet but I cant remember who I got them off
