Here are the figures for LA. (You can use the websites referred to below if you want further information for the other localities):

Average daytime temperature = 27 - 28C (but the record high for this time of year is 43C!).

Average night -time temperature = 18C. (Lowest ever recorded was only 11C).

On average, there's only one rainy day in LA throughout the whole of September. The humidity, however, is high enough to be classified as 'moderate discomfort'.

And to supplement Buenchico's post, you'll find San Francisco always on the cool side with the wind off the bay. Daytime temps in September will be in the 50 to 65 F range (occasionally much higher)... night time down to low 50's to high 40's... should be dry with little fog that time of year. Yosemite will be nice, but cool. Expect low temps at night to reach down to high 30's or low 40's F. Should be dry, clear and cool. Come prepared though. It has been known to snow lightly in late September, early October in Yosemite... altitude there is about 5,000 feet above sea level on the valley floor up to almost 9,000 feet in surround ridges.
Welcome to the U.S.!
also this time of year (sept) in LA and San Fran you can get quite a bit of smog or limited visibility. this is prob a combination of traffic and humidity. or something like that. ok so i dont really know what causes it but it happens. really nice though just be prepared for it to be a bit sticky. (more so in LA than San Fran)
We went to Yosemite,SF and LA in the 2-3rd week of September 2 years ago. I was amazed at how hot Yosemite was, late 70s early 80s. It was very dry too, not much water in the waterfals. SF was pleasantly warm and sunny, but got foggy as we left and really quite cool, needed a jacket. LA was very hot again, more so than Yosemite.
Lauran I'm doing that trip this year. What was it like ?
