New York Bed Bugs

Hello everyone... I'm off to NY in a few weeks time, and just wondered if anyone has any up to date info on the bed bug infestation? Can't bear the thought of spending my hols sleeping and sight seeing....They've been found in the Empire State Building amongst others now!! ... with them..or even worse bringing them back in my suitcase and ending up with an infestation in my home!! Would appreciate any advice .

this isn't a recent thing, bed bugs have been prevalent in NY for many years it is just that it has increased slightly and you are just as likely to see them in office buildings as much as your hotel room
You are no more danger of 'getting' them in a few weeks than you were 10 years ago
As for bringing them home? Well young ones can live for a few months where as adults can live for around a year without food so just wash everything in hot water if you are that worried

Don`t worry about it. I`ve never seen bed bugs in NY and I was there a couple of weeks ago and didn`t see any that time either. Just forget about it and enjoy your trip.

I wouldn't be overly worried either, even as pink-kittens says they have been an issue for NY for many years

Enjoy your holiday and forget about bugs or you will just imagine every itch and scratch to be bed bugs!

As a pest controller of 13 years, I would say if you are staying in hotels in NY, thoroughly clean everything on your return, leave the cases outside in the garage for a few days to kill anything lurking in the case.

Pink-Kittens, very unlikely to pick up bed bugs or to ever find them in office buildings, they are called bed bugs for a reason, they are generally only found in bedrooms, I have treated many many instances of bed bugs successfully, but only ever treated the bedroom.
