are GPs trying to save the NHS money?

Poor Mr CRX had a medical yesterdy and whilst there he asked about getting the snip. We have 2 children aged 2 and 5 and me and Mr CRX arent exactly young.
anyway the GP suggested to mr CRX that he wait.
His words - the snip is irreversible (or at least meant to be) that means no more children, what if your entire family were wiped out, they would be little or no chance of ever having more children and at 42 you are still young enough to have more.
what a cheery thought eh?
