Main Dealer Warranties

I'm going to buy a BMW 318 coupe at around 18 months old from a main dealer, only because of the way I'm going to finance it.

My dad told me that for a dealer to buy an 'Approved Warranty' it can cost them around 800 quid. So, the question is could I buy the car from the dealer and have this super duper warranty taken off seen as I won't need it because the car is still under manufacturer's 3 year warranty anyway.

Can anybody in the trade help me?

I was in the motor trade for over 15 years (not any more) and it costs nothing like �800 for a warranty - �50 is closer to the truth. Most main dealers will sell cars mainly under manufacturers warranty anyway.

How are you financing - because there are always lots of options (many cheaper) if you shop around - I know - I was a business manager, so I dealt with finance and warranties

Well I'm going to do a PCP cos of the strong residuals of the beemer meaning my monthly payments will be lower as I'm working towards a fixed monthly budget rather than total cost.

There's a site called www.car-finance.net that will finance the deal. Is this the right way to go about it?? I don't want to trade mine in cos I know the offer will make me mad.

5 yr finance generally works out about the same as a PCP - and there is less hassle about refinancing the MGFV (minimum guaranteed future value) You still have a safety net if the market value falls under your Consumer Credit Act rights.

Sorry for being ignorent but how and why would the Credits Act come into it?

Thinking about it, somebody did actually tell me that you pay more for a PCP because of the MGFV, If I was going to keep the car for only say 2 - 2.5  years would a straight loan still be the best?
