laptop problems
5 Answers
My laptop keeps freezing on me. First everything goes really slow and jumpy then it just stops altogether and I have to switch it off without shutting it down. When I switch it back on it its lost my network drivers and I have to reinstall them which is driving me mad since it's happening 2 or 3 times a day. I tried reinstalling windows and starting again from scratch but that doesn't seem to have helped either. Does anyone have any idea what the problem is and how I can sort it? I can't afford to take it in to be fixed at the moment.
Thanks
Karen

It seems to keep losing the drivers for my ethernet controller and network controller. I've now done 2 reinstalls of windows and downloaded and installed every driver for my laptop that i can find but i can't get on at all!
When it breaks Karen .. Have you looked at the corresponding entries in the Device Manager (Control Panel/System/Hardware) (Check "show hidden devices" in toolbar dropdown) and checked properties of those devices to see what is appended against them?
It can say "currently not connected", or "disabled"
You checked those drivers are certified for your OS?

Yes, I've done all that and the drivers are the right ones. Sometimes when I go into device manager and hidden devices they are just not there, other times they are. I worked on it 11 hours straight yesterday and so far my connection has been ok, but it has frozen on me 3 times in the last hour and I've had to switch it off and start again - which is usually when the connection goes.
I think you have virus attack problem. Try checking your computer with an anti-virus programme
Alternatively, partition your hard disk, to install "Ubuntu Linux". It comes with "Open Office 3.2. Requires no license # or activation key issues. It known to have less virus problem.
Current version of "Ubuntu" is 10.04
Good luck
