I've never read any of the 'classics' because they've never interested me and i don't think i'd get past the first page.
But which one would you recommend as an easy read?

Yes I've heard that's good saxyjag! Am quite into David Nicholls' books at the moment, easy to read and very enjoyable!
Waugh's 'Sword of Honour' trilogy was written during, and just after, the second World War. It is a brilliant book. There are passages where you'd laugh out loud and others which I think shows what war might really have been like.
Hemmingway has been mentioned earlier. His collections of short stories are well worth the read.
Treasure Island.
hi tigerlelly, i remember my family and other animals from school and loved it! really enjoyed it.
it was shown on tv not so long back, did you see it? it was quite good, they got the characters spot on.
I've just finished Great Expectations and I have to say I was a little disappointed.
Hello Loobyloo,
No, I didn't see it but if Hannah Gordon played the mother then I've seen it before and loved it.
Larry's description of his sister's acne has always stuck in my mind: "Like a plateful of scarlet porridge" - unkind but brilliant!
I rediscovered Jane Austen a few years ago. I laughed through her descriptions of social niceties...a great incite, and good to compare to today.
Absolute favourites include Jane Eyre and Little Women,To Kill a Mockingbird,Catcher in the Rye,Cold Blood,The Idiot (Dostoevsky),Bram Stoker's Dracula.
