Are "serve yourself tills" a good idea? Or are they doing away with jobs at Supermarkets??
6 Answers
Had a bit of a disagreement with a relative today, she said she would never ever use the serve yourself tills out of principle as they encourage stores to employ less staff. I disagree as at my local supermarket they got rid of 2 proper tills and replaced with 4 serve yourself ones, those 2 staff are now employed to help at the serve yourself tills. Her argument was that shops will eventually replace all the tills as serve yourself. Tried explaining this was not possible as its usually max 20 items and how would ppl do their weekly shopping at these type of tills?? To be honest it would save time as I usually queue up at a till where there is a woman who talks non stop and stops scanning while talking holding the queue up even more !! What do you think?

Supermarkets themselves reduced the number of jobs in retail, it's called "progress"! I hate the ones at Morrissons, every item "please put the item in the bag", the staff are apprently going demented hearing it all day. They need calibrating to be able to read light items, I had great fun with gift tags at Sainsbury's last year!
