Your question is a bit vague so best to give us more info.
Some questions:
Can you tell us your EXACT make and model and age of the laptop, Then we can tell you if it is wi fi enabled.
What version of Windows?
Does the broadband work if you remove the router and plug the laptop straight into the modem?
If you reconnect the router then connect the laptop with a CABLE to the router does that work? (it is always best to get the router working with a cable first before trying wi fi).
If your laptop works when connected via a cable to the router then you need to try to get it working with wi fi.
Did Virgin send you a router setup disk for the laptop?
Is there a button on the laptop to turn wi fi on and off (some have). Make sure it is on.
If your laptop is wifi enabled you should not need any extra dongles or cards so make sure you remove them all as it can confuse your laptop.
