Each time i start my computer i have an icon on my desktop for adult chat. I don't know where it came from and how to get rid of it. I try de-installing it but each time I restart it's there again!

Its probably an annoying 'dialler' which installs itself without telling you. The best thing to do is the un install it, but also to do a search on your computer to find all of the bits left behind in various places (ie search for the title of it), and manually delete them as well. Hopefully it wont come back then!
need to search registry for it too; [Run regedit] do a registry backup first though. The icon is probably a shortcut; rightclik it, go in properties, click 'find target'. Get freeware Adaware, it spots spyware. Scan with [free] AVG virusware. Get startup cop [freeware] to help kill it out of your startup folder. If on XP Ctrl Alt Delete will bring up app. manager; there you can see what processes and apps are running. Find and delete it's exe file; if it won't delete, find it in dos window and rename it. Good luck. I hate intrusives.
Have you also tried running MSCONFIG? (start-run-type msconfig then OK). On the startup tab untick everything except scanregistry and system tray.
Is it possible someone else is using your computer to access an adult chat site?
