Knitting a scarf

Hi. I am a very basic knitter, but have decided to knit my son a scarf in time for winter(!) Like I said, im a very basic knitter, so I have done 1 row knit, 1 row pearl. The problem is, the further I get, it keeps curling into a tube, and the bottom has curled up too..
Have I done something wrong, and is there anything I can do to rectify it?? Would ironing it after help the problem that already has been caused..

It's perfectly normal whatwhat - one row knit one row purl (stocking stitch) does twist back on itself. The only thing I have done in the past is to start to roll up the scarf as I knit, and safety-pin the roll at each end in an attempt to keep it at flat as possible while working it. However, depending how long it is, this can make the work heavy and drag a bit, so I've usually pinned the sausage so it sits in my lap while knitting, which reduces the drag. Well done you - everyone has to start somewhere!

how wide is it ? Wot wool & number needles ?

Thanks guys!! That makes me feel better! Iv done it 25 stitches wide and the needles are a 4mm.. Not sure what the wool is, if had it for years.. Its kind of average..?!!

Double knitting wool is about 2mm wide, 4 ply is much finer (if that helps!)
