Brown discharge - 6 weeks pregnant
I hope this isn't TMI on a Sunday morning(!) but I am 6 weeks pregnant and have had brown discharge, it was only a little bit yesterday but is heavier today. Only very mild cramping - nothing servere, if at all really. Should I be concerned? My husband and I had intercourse yesterday morning since becoming pregnant and I'm not sure if this has anything to do with it??

Miscarriages during the early weeks are quite common and some people just think they are late periods, especially if they haven't done pregnancy tests. (They weren't available when I was young). I am not saying you are miscarrying because you can bleed when you are pregnant, but be aware that you may be. Hopefully, you are not.
Thanks for your responses. I have had some biopsies taken from my cervix previously due to inconclusive smears and I'm hoping the intercourse has just aggrevated the internal 'wounds' and this is not to do with the baby but will just have to play the waiting game I guess. I'm a little reassured that I've not got pains, etc, but of course I'm wanting to keep checkng to see if there is red blood because at the moment it's just brown and I understand that is old blood and hopefully not linked to the baby.
This is very, very common in early pregnancy and is, as you say, old blood. It could quite possibly be from your wounds left by the biopsy but it could also be implantation bleeding as this is generally accompanied by very mild cramping style pains
A&E can't do anything for you, so I would avoid going unless absolutely necessary as they will just send you home for 'nature to take it's course'.
best wishes

i had bleeds and bloodstained vaginal discharge up till around week 13 of my pregnacy, as scary as they were and after a number of checks being made both me and baby were fine. I was told that this is quite normal and occurs with many women. Keep a eye on the situation and speak to your midwife if still concerned other than that go on as normal as possible.. The only time i would say to worry is if the pain gets severe and blood loss is extreme. A&E will not be the place to go though as miscarriage is not concidered a accident or emergency as i once found out. Your hospital should have a early pregnancy unit, phone that if worried :-)
Thanks for your responses. I have contacted the midwife and I'm booked in for an early scan tomorrow at 8.30am - so pleased at the speed they can get me in! I'm fortunate as I live near a maternity centre! She said it is common and likely to be linked to the intercourse yesterday but says best that we check in case. Everything's crossed!!
