Help! On bail for Credit card fraud...I didnt do it!!

Hi folks

I met a girl from a dating site a few months back, we had been talking on the internet and by text for a few months then we met up at her house but found she wasnt my type (bit of a weirdo)....I told her that it wouldnt work... A few weeks later the police came knocking at my door wanting to take to the station for questioning, I wondered what the hell was going on!! After 5 hours in a cell I got questioned.... She had reported that £300credit card had been stolen and had suspicions in was me (It wasnt)...I told the police everything how I met her etc... They let me out on bail a few months back and they want me to go back next week to be charged... They dont believe me...The other thing is that in 2008 I got arrested for 3 counts of false representation my punishment was a curfew for 6months and had to pay all the money back.... It no excuse but my wife had just past away and was a single parent with 2 kids and couldnt afford a loaf of bread... But I have really turned my life around since then... I have not done anything this time except try to meet somebody off a dating site... Im sick with worry....I know I have done wrong in the past but this is unreal... If they pin it on me what would happen?? what would happen to my kids??

Any case against you would need to have evidence. You need to talk to a solicitor rather than ask for help here. How can we say what will be the outcome? If you are unsure what to do next and want free advice go to your Citizens Advice Bureau.

Use the internet to find solicitors recommended in your area for defence work. Did you have representation when they questioned you? I don't know about criminal law, but you have to help your lawyer to help you by giving them as many facts as you can.

No I dint have representation at the interview... do you think I could get sent to prison?? if its second offence?

they're unlikely to convict you just on her say-so. They'd need to show that the card had been used in some way that implicates you - for instance that it was used in shops where you'd been seen or that goods were ordered online and delivered to your house. I'd get a lawyer if I were you, and find out exactly what the evidence is against you.

There is one reason that you are unlikely to get a prison sentence, if you were found guilty. At the moment UK prisons are massively overcrowded so only cases that prison is the only option are likely to be sent there. If you are innocent I dont know why you are so worried about a sentence at this stage.

Thanks for the info...They had invoices that had my name on but not my address...of items that had been purchased on the internet... I apologise for the negativity but it seems that she is very clever...and has done this because she was turned down or something silly... I will seek advice... but Im just worried that it might go horribly wrong against my favour....and just wondered what punishment Id get if they say its a second offence in 2 years etc...thanks for the input folks

I would have thought that things purchased over the internet would come from a particular email and IP address, so not that difficult to find out exactly who was responsible. This is a matter for your solicitor to find out based on any evidence that the prosecution put forward.
