broadband disconnecting?

I have 1Meg broadband with BT Voyager 100 USB Modem. The connection is continually dropping off for no apparent reason. I have changed the Modem, microfilter and assosiated cables to no avail. I carried out a virus scan with Norton, McAfee and AVG and as a last resort I reinstalled the modem drivers and BT's software, none of this has helped. Any ideas would be much appreciated.

I had a similar problem last year. It took ages to sort out, but it was traced to a crack in the outside telephone line cable, from my house to the pole. When the wind blew it caused my connection to be cut. Sorry I cant give a technical reason or fix.

I will contact BT for a line test but am not convinced this will show a problem as it is spurious. How did they determine you had a breakdown in the line as that must have been intermittant aswell (only cutting out during windy conditions)
Im no expert but recently my broadband was cutting off/unable to establish connections etc. it turns out that the ISP were upgrading their network so the problem was at their end - would be worth checking their server stauts ?

I'VE  had the same happens several times most day like you I reinstalled drivers and long phone call which they went through different things said line needed checking out it seems this happens more if bad weather there was a storm here last week and cut out every 5 mins so turned it off its annoying especially if your listening to a radio programme, usually error number comes up. I did e mail BT and explained what was happening, its not been too bad lately off once today when this happens now it tries to reconnect and usually does but I log off and reconnect and seems better that way  If it keeps happening I will write to BT and get someone to check line as agree with you not a good service.

It was a coincidence that BT found the fault. Due to regulations (clearance for fire-engines!), they had to raise the hight of the phone wires on all the homes in our street. The engineer found this fault while testing . Some days it would only disconnect about 3 times a day, other times every 5 minutes. I then realized it coincided with wind speed.

Thanks for all your advice, have to go to the US of A tomorrow and hopefully i will be able to sort this problem out when I next have time. Cheers, will be in touch. Andy B
