high / low frequency sound wave 'stungun'
I read a sci-fi novel that included the police force using a 'non-lethal' high (or it may have been low, can't remember as it was a few years ago) frequency sound wave generator to stun groups of miscreants ~ aimed at people and groups from a distance, so not to be confused with Tazers ~ Is this viable?

There is (allegedly) a certain frequency of sound that if played loud enough will make a people poo themselves, I guess that could be fairly effective as crowd control :)
Anyhow.. .

No ..load of old rubbish, and so called "brown noise" doesn't make you cack your drawers, the best you can hope for is a high frequency (eg. 15-17khz) tone from your mobile phone/hi-fi that will p!ss off a few kids/teenagers for a minute or two.
Unless you have access to something that will generate many thousands of watts.
